‘What’s On’ in Lyme Regis Summer 2021!

Lyme Regis is gearing up for a fun filled summer 2021! It’s been so nice to see the beaches starting to fill up and hear the happy buzz of holiday makers around town again.

There is no shortage of events planned for the summer holiday season in July and August, so if you need a break from relaxing on the beach, listening to the sound of the waves and soaking up the sunshine (hopefully) then read on!

24th July – 31st July, Lifeboat Week. A week of good-humoured traditional seaside fun and a vital fund raiser for the RNLI. You can enjoy a duck race, a bathtub race, a tug of war across the harbour, crabbing contests, pavement art, games, music and displays, including the Army Parachute Display Team landing on the sandy beach (hopefully)!   For more detail and timings buy your program here.

5th August, Fireworks Display on The Cobb at 10pm. The annual fireworks above the Cobb are not to be missed. For the best uninterrupted views, bring a bottle of wine and a picnic blanket and slip straight out of Lyme 1 Hotel into Longmoor Gardens. Be sure to pop a donation into the bucket to raise money for the RNLI and Regatta & Carnival funds.

7th August – 14th August, Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Week. Fun filled madness takes over the town with fund raising activities from egg catching to welly wanging. There are kids treasure hunts on the beach, a family dog show, a football bin competition, lego building, street art painting, free power boat rides, a quiz night, gospel singing, drumming, displays and much much more!

7th August, Torchlight Procession at 9pm. The beautiful torchlight procession takes place every year and starts from the top of Langmour Gardens right next to Lyme 1 Hotel. Join in or watch from the side-lines and soak up the atmosphere as the iconic procession makes its way down to the beach and the torches form a circle to light a beacon against the background of the historic Cobb.

9th August, Be A Record Breaker at 5:30 – 6pm. Have you ever wanted to be a record breaker? Here’s your chance! Bring your bucket and spade down to the harbour and join the sand pie challenge, aiming to beat the World Record last set in 2014!

If you’re looking for a cultural fix there are no end of things on throughout the summer too. Check out the The Town Mill, known as the artisan and creative hub of Lyme Regis. Nestled around a cobbled courtyard there are two beautiful art galleries hosting exhibitions from local artists as well as a water mill, an artisan brewery, a potter, a silversmith, seaweed art, a restaurant and a café too.

For a history fix don’t miss the Lyme Regis Museum,  birthplace of Mary Anning. It’s a must for fossil hunting walks, museum tours and information about the fascinating history and geology of this wonderful little part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.

For evening entertainment, there’s a lively program of shows, cinema and comedy at The Marine Theatre.
