‘What’s On’ in Lyme Regis Summer 2022

There is no shortage of fun and games scheduled for Lyme Regis this summer. Kicking off with the Queens Platinum Jubilee celebrations from the 2nd – 5th June.

An iconic torchlight procession will start proceedings on the 2nd June. From just outside our front door at  Lyme 1 Hotel it’ll make its way down through Langmoor Gardens and onto the Sandy beach. There, it is expected that more than three hundred people will use their torches to form a beautiful circle of light as the sun sets and a beacon is lit by the Mayor on the North Wall.

The main event will be a Jubilee Picnic in the seafront and Langmoor Gardens starting late afternoon, Sunday 5th June. This will be accompanied by a spectacular performance from BBC Big Band on the beach, playing everything from Rat Pack to Swing and Last Night of the Proms!  A fireworks display over the historic Cobb and harbour will round off proceedings with a BANG!

As well as this, the weekend will be full of amazing music with Jazz Jurassica’s annual music festival held at the Marine Theatre. There is something for everyone’s taste, from Neil Mayas Cartoon Jazz to the incredible James Taylor Quartet as well as free music around the town throughout the weekend.  One of the highlights will be the Dockside Latin Orchestra, 8:30pm on the 4th June at the theatre, playing an exciting ‘dance crazed’ salsa set that is guaranteed to get you to your feet with a joyful Afro-Cuban sound.

Following the Jubliee and Jazz Jurassica fun we will have time to gather our energy before the Lyme Regis Beer Festival kicks off and has us back on the boogie with over 20 beers and 20 live acts to enjoy from the 22nd to 23rd July at the Marine Theatre.

This will warm us up for Lyme Regis Life Boat Week from the 23rd to 30th July.  It’s always a fun filled program of events and fun activities for all the family. From a duck race down the river Lim to pavement art and the famous bathtub race across the bay, which never fails to amuse as home-made crafts from local businesses and the RNLI and fire crews hobble to the finish line.

The 4th August will see a firework display light up the Cobb, to raise important funds for both the RNLI and the local Regatta and Carnival week charities. Grab a picnic and a bottle of wine and head up to Langmoor gardens for the best view.

6th August -13th August is  Lyme Regis Regatta and Carnival Week where the madness of good old fashioned seaside fun takes over the town. From mural painting to egg catching, treasure hunts on the beach for the kids, a dog show, welly wanging, quizzes, top bin challenges and much much more! There really is something for everyone and you can’t help but get involved!

Sunday 28th August brings the summer season to a close with the stunning Candles on the Cobb event. Thousands of tealights will light up the iconic Cobb harbour, each one sponsored by member of the public and lit in memory of a loved one. It really is a beautiful and poignant event.

Outside of all these amazing events there is a whole host of things to do year-round in Lyme Regis. From exploring the artisan hub of The Town Mill to the wonders of Lyme Regis Museum,  birthplace of Mary Anning. The surrounding Jurassic Coast is also a must for fossil hunting walks and exploring the fascinating history and geology of this wonderful little part of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site.
